- ESV Bible The English Standard Version (ESV) is an essentially literal translation that also strives for great readability (8th grade reading level). This English translation produced by Crossway in 2001, is widely used and endorsed by conservative Bible scholars and preachers. The entire Bible is available to read (or listen) online here.
- NET Bible A unique attempt at a fully-online Bible translation by a number of scholars (now available in print also). The great benefit of this translation is the very detailed 60,932 translator’s notes which help the reader gain a deeper understanding of the nuances behind Bible translation.
- BibleGateway.com Has almost 4 dozen English Bible translations (and other languages) that are fully searchable. There are also several Bible study helps including Nave’s Topical Bible.
- Understanding Bible Versions This online article from LifeWay.com offers a good explanation of Bible translation philosophy and the differences between various English translations of the Bible.

- E-Sword Is a completely free Bible software program that is downloadable to your own computer. It includes many Bible versions, dictionaries, commentaries, concordances, maps, and much more. There are many add-on modules available for purchase.
- Bible Gateway.com is an tremendous online Bible study site that allows you to compare version, read commentaries, and do word studies in the original text.
- BibleStudyTools.com has a great variety of Bible study tools, commentaries, and resources to use for free.
- StudyLight.org has many Bible study tools including original language helps, Bible encyclopedias, and historical writings such as Josephus and early church fathers.
- Interlinearbible.org is a website where you can see the Greek words behind English translation of the Bible.

- Blue Letter Bible is another free Bible software program with many free resources.
- You Version is a free Bible app (available also for smart phones) that includes a user-friendly Bible search and many Bible versions for comparison.
- Bible Gateway.com online Bible study website also has an app.

- How to Study the Bible for Yourself This is an introductory workbook to Bible study and how to study the Scripture for yourself. This material was an 8 week study presented by Jonathan Jones at the Maryville church of Christ.
- Christian Courier An excellent website by Wayne Jackson from Stockton, CA. Jackson is a longtime preacher for churches of Christ and writes on a variety of topics from Christian living, apologetics, and doctrine. The site provides thourough Biblical research with a commitment to the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
- JackCottrell.com is the personal website of Jack Cottrell who teaches for Cincinnati Christian University (Independent Christian Church). The site is full of questions that Dr. Cottrell has been asked and Biblical answers to the questions. Dr. Cottrell is an excellent student of the Scriptures and his writings are worth careful consideration.
Commentaries
- Coffman Commentaries Dr. James Burton Coffman was a longtime preacher in churches of Christ and wrote commentaries on every book of the Bible. These commentaries have been widely used and now the New Testament is available free online from SearchGodsWord.com.
- Bible Study Textbook Series (College Press) College Press is associated with the Independent Christian Church (Restoration Movement). These textbooks present comments on every book of the Bible and are available for free download.
- IVP Commentaries These commentaries present up-to-date evangelical Bible scholarship. Many volumes in the New Testament is free from BibleGateway.com.
- Other Study Resources from various sources: J.W. McGarvey’s commentary on Acts, The People’s New Testament, The FourFold Gospel by McGarvey and Pendleton, A.T. - E Bible Teacher.com Has wonderful computer resources for Bible teachers. This site is arranged by Terry Taylor, a Sunday School teacher in churches of Christ.
- Bible Map.org A wide variety of maps of Biblical events is located here. This site has an impressive user interface, but some of the Biblical locations are not listed or are inaccurately located. The site can be helpful, but use with caution.
- BibleAtlas.org This site has a wonderful search feature that allows you to search Biblical locations and see them on a map.
